condition report (EICR)
For your protection and peace of mind the electrics in your home should be tested every 5 to 10 years.
The best way to do this is to hire an electrician to test and inspect your electrics. This is also known as an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR).
What happens during an EICR?
An EICR checks the condition of the electrical wiring in your home.
I will carry out visual checks and electrical testing to identify any unsafe non-compliances such as damaged accessories (sockets and switches), exposed wiring and electrical faults.
Typically an EICR takes between 3 to 5 hours to complete. Once complete I will send you a detailed report which will list anything I find that is unsafe. The report will also include recommendations to improve your electrics and a quote for fixing them.
Do I need an EICR?
I would recommend having an EICR check if:
- It's been over 5 years since your last EICR and you live in a rented property
- It's been over 10 years since your last EICR and you live in a property that you own
- You are selling or buying a property and need to know the condition of the electrics
- You have experienced severe property damage such as electrical faults, fire or water damage (leaks and flooding)
